Do I need a Life Coach?

3 reasons you might have life coaching and how it can help you.

If you are reading this then there is a fair chance that you’ve heard of Life Coaching but you aren’t really sure what it is and if it could help you figure out whatever it is that’s playing on your mind right now.

Maybe you are curious as to other ways of being but don’t know where you would even begin in figuring that out?

The reassuring news is that you are not alone in feeling this way and in recent years more and more people are seeking out personal growth and development to help them to move forward in their lives.

In a nutshell, Life Coaching is a collaborative, non - directive conversation that aims to bring about change that creates possibilities for greater ways of being in a persons life through inquiry and reflection on their inner world of beliefs, assumptions, values and expectations.

A Life Coach isn’t going to tell you what to do but rather facilitate your thinking to find the answers for yourself through meaningful questions and conversation.

People turn to Life Coaching for many different reasons, so to help you to start to understand why you might have Life Coaching and how you can benefit from it here are 3 common reasons that explore just that!

1. When you have a big decision to make Big decisions can be scary, ain’t that the truth! They often crop up during the beginnings or endings of stuff (signaling a significant change in your life) and all of the thoughts and feelings that come with making that big decision can leave us feeling paralised and overwhelmed. Not knowing what to do for the best, procrastination sets in and in some cases the feelings are so overwhelming we take no decision making action at all.

Maybe this sounds familiar. Perhaps you are considering a big career change, or moving into/on from a certain relationship in your life?

By thinking through your decision with the help of a Life Coach you can explore the pros and cons of your options along with the whys, the whats and the hows, as you delve into understanding the dynamics of your decision on a deeper level in a safe space.

It’s amazing what a simple bit of saying things out loud can do for your clarity!

2. When you have identified repetitive negative thoughts that are holding you back and you want to find a way to overcome them In the Life Coaching world this type of negative thought are known as ‘limiting beliefs’ - quite literally a belief that holds us back and limits us from having or being what we want.

You know, that little thought in your head or character on your shoulder that pops up to put us in our place whenever we try to move forward. Maybe it is telling you that you are not good enough, that you will fail, or that you can’t do whatever it is that you want to achieve so why are you bothering?

The thing is, you know you could be/do so much more if only you didn’t have these pesky nagging doubts.

Through Life Coaching you can work to explore, challenge, and then ultimately exchange those limiting beliefs. Kicking the negative thoughts to the curb and making a plan for bringing more helpful beliefs into play that will help get you to where you want to be rather than forever being held back.

3. When you have a goal you want to achieve and are looking to create an action plan Hands up if you love a good goal! Or maybe you hate setting goals and you avoid them at all costs? Perhaps the thought of goal setting scares you because you feel by setting goals you are really only setting yourself up for failure?

Whichever team you fall into there’s no denying that achieving your goal is a pretty damn good feeling, even if setting it might frighten the life out of you! The truth of the matter is that whatever your reason for setting a goal it is 100% easier to achieve it if you have a solid plan of action, which in turn can take the ‘scariness’ out of it.

Big goals, small goals, personal goals, work goals. Whatever your goal type, with the support of a Life Coach asking open reflective questions you can navigate what can often be a daunting prospect to set clearly defined, realistic, achievable goals that give you the best chance of success in making that goal a reality.

So there you have it, a short introduction as to 3 possible scenarios where working with a Life Coach can help you to move forward towards living a life of greater possibilities.

There are of course many other reasons and benefits to having Life Coaching and different people come to it for different reasons. There certainly is no ‘one size fits all’ which is one of the things that I love about being a coach. Each coaching conversion is as unique as the person you are having the conversation with.

A common theme that I see with my clients is the power of simply saying stuff out loud in a safe space to someone who is not connected to you.

You should try it some time!

Although, just like in life you don’t necessarily find connection with everyone you meet and finding a Life Coach is no different. However, when you find a Life Coach that is right for you they can help you to unlock the door to a self-growth, development, and happiness that you never knew was possible.
